Can't get enough NHL rumors? Lyle Richardson's serves as a one-stop guide to the latest rumblings around the league. Prior to last season's NHL trade deadline, the Bruins acquired Rick Nash in hopes of boosting their second-line scoring punch. The move failed to pan Aidan Hutchinson T Shirts out and some observers feel it's an i sue that still needs addre sing for the coming season. In a recent mailbag segment, NBC Sports' Joe Haggerty . He believes that decision will have to wait until after all clubs have evaluated their rosters during training camp next month. Haggerty suggestsBlue Jackets forward Artemi Panarin could be available before the start of the season. The 26-year-old left wing is due to become an unrestricted free agent next July and is with the Jackets. MORE: | Like Panarin, Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds is also slated for UFA status next July. Haggerty believes the physical 29-year-old would be a great fit with the Bruins. Flyers general manager Ron Hextall last month but declined to discu s contract talks publicly. Simmonds is coming off pelvic surgery, which could affect his performance. The Flyers will likely a se s his early-season play before John Penisini Jerseys deciding on whether to re-sign or trade him. The Bruins have depth on defense to use as trade bait to bring in a forward. Puck-moving rearguard Torey Krugwas a frequent subject of trade conjecture but that talk has died down in Detroit Lions T Shirts recent weeks. Haggerty believes Bruins management could be reluctant to move him unle s the deal is a winner for them. Acquiring Panarin or Simmonds would be an expensive undertaking for the Bruins in return and contract extension. The Jackets and Flyers could also prefer getting a forward as part of any potential deal for either guy. Haggerty former Bruins center Tyler Seguin has yet to sign a contract extension with the Stars. Should Seguin become available via trade or free agency, however, Haggerty doubts a reunion with the Bruins will happen, citing in part the high cost of acquiring a player whose production tends to dry up when the going gets tough. MORE: Red Wings vets facing uncertain futures Entering 2018-19, the rebuilding continues for the once-mighty Red Wings. As they transition toward younger talent, questions linger over where veterans such as goaltender Jimmy Howard, winger Gustav Nyquist and defenseman Trevor Daley fit into the club's future plans. Howard, 34, has filled the role of starting goaltender with the Wings since 2009-10. He becomes eligible Craig Reynolds Jerseys next July for unrestricted free agent status. In a recent mailbag segment, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Pre s if the Wings' recent signing of Jonathan Bernier means Howard might be dealt before the Feb. 25, 2019, trade deadline. St. James said the Wings know what they have in Howard and would prefer keeping him, suggesting he could get a two-year contract extension if he has a good season. However, she doesn't rule out the po sibility of Howard being moved at the deadline if the Wings get a good offer and returning to Detroit next summer as a free agent. Like Howard, Nyquist is also slated for UFA status next July. Though he's tallied 40 or more points in each of the last five seasons, the 28-year-old winger is a streaky scorer who leaves Red Wings fans wanting more. MLive Jared Goff T Shirts .com's Ansar Khan the Wings will evaluate Nyquist's performance during the first half of this season. With several promising young forwards already on the roster and in the Wings' pipeline, he might not fit into their long-term plans. Nyquist carries a no-trade clause but Khan speculates he could waive it to join a playoff contender. Unlike Howard and Darren Fells Jerseys Nyquist, Daley remains under contract through 2019-20. He also carries a no-trade clause, but Khan that expires within 10 days of next February's trade deadline. As a result, the 34-year-old blueliner could get moved come deadline day. Having term on his contract could make him an attractive option for clubs seeking more than a rental player for the playoffs. James Reimer's tenure with Panthers Miami Dolphins Jerseys is likely over, but it's how he leaves the team that is yet to be determined. The 31-year-old is owed $3.4 million over each of the next two seasons, and TSN's Pierre Lebrun reported Florida is still looking trade Reimer to Greg Little Jerseys avoid a buyout. Panthers still trying to trade James Reimer. Working hard at it. They would rather move him than buy him out. Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) A former Maple Leaf, Reimer posted a Byron Jones Jerseys 13-12-5 record in 29 starts with a . Salvon Ahmed Jerseys 900 save percentage and a 3.09 GAA as the backup for the newly retired Roberto Luongo. I wonder if it might be in the best interests to call on James Reimer from the Florida Panthers. Take in an additional a set for Chase Edmonds Jerseys the privilege, buy the player out, and the cap charge isn't all that prohibitive either. (h/t ) J.D. Here's po sibly the best way to think of Alain Vigneault: his coaching philosophy. "I believe that there's one Washington Commanders Accessories way to play and that's the right way. Most coaches that have succe s in the NHL they all believe in their way of coaching and philosophy in playing, and at the end of the day I believe what myself and my a sistants are trying to do is right." The right way has led Vigneault to a lofty perch. On Saturday, he . It's a distinguished group, and Vigneault is a worthy addition. MORE: | | Since becoming coach of the Montreal Canadiens, with his first Darrick Forrest Jerseys game on Oct. 1, 1997, this former NHL defenseman has been a succe s as well as a gentleman. It's not just the victories that tell why Vigneault arrived at this career plateau. It's how he got there. Consider what he said Saturday after his New York Rangers beat the Phoenix Coyotes for No. 500: "I feel very privileged and fortunate to have all those good players through the years." Calm and self Kyle Shurmur Jerseys -effacing, prepared and willing to let his players shine. That's Vigneault. I think what may go unnoticed is the accountability he holds us to, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal told . Hes not very vocal or brash about it to the outside world, but one-on-one in the room, he holds us to the high standards he expects from us every night, and I think that raises our level. MORE: | Staal wasn't alone. I think hes the kind of guy that focuses on his proce s and follows that day to day, Dominic Moore told Its those milestones, when they come up, that remind you, Hey, Ive Sammis Reyes Jerseys got a good thing going here, my proce s is good. Hes not the kind of guy who would think about that. Vigneault began as coach of the Canadiens, and today he is tied with Habs legend Toe Blake in career victories. He is one behind former Habs coach Pat Burns. He is 500-335-35-72 in 942 games coached. "I do understand that 500 is a lot of wins and I've been very fortunate to have coached some real Montez Sweat Jerseys good players, have had some real great a sistants working with me, and I've always had support of management," Vigneault said. Jon Bostic Jerseys All that remains is to win the Stanley Cup. Vigneault got the Vancouver Canucks to the finals in 2011 and the Rangers there in 2014. For the record, Vigneault is 78-47-11 in his two seasons in New York and was 313-170-57 in Vancouver and 109-118-39 in Montreal. Now, 500 victories. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

Everyone iseagerly awaiting what happens on the ice between the Edmonton Oilers' Zack Ka sian and Calgary's Matthew Tkachuk after their last meeting in the Battle of Alberta for Lance Alworth Jerseys the former. But before puck drop, the rugged forward became the benefactor of an off-the-ice decision as he earned a surances that he is a member of the Oilers' long-term plan. Ka sian Derwin James Jerseys signed a four-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $3.2 million on Wednesday. Instead Donald Parham Jr. Jerseys , he will receive a pay raise; he is currently finishingouta . Ka sian was traded to Edmonton on Dec. 28, 2015, by Montreal in return for Ben Scrivens. Shake up in L.A. You can say the timing was odd for Rob Blake to dismi s John Stevens as head coach of the Los Angeles Kings, but really, the timing Deandre Hopkins T Shirts was just unfortunate. The day after temporarily climbing out of their early-season doldrums with a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Kings fired Stevens and replaced him on an interim basis with Willie Desjardins. The decision reportedly was made after the Kings lo s to Philadelphia on Thursday, and it was merely a matter of getting Desjardins and new a sistant coach Marco Sturm locked in before making the move. And now, the dynamics in Los Angeles changed drastically. MORE: As Canadiens "buy in" a new culture is created in Montreal this season Desjardins was brought in from the outside, having most recently coached Team Canada in international tournaments, including the 2018 Winter Olympics. He was the Canucks coach for three seasons before being fired at the end Kelvin Beachum Jerseys of 2016-17. The real interesting angle here, though, is Sturm. The 40-year-old former Kings forward is considered a rising star in the coaching ranks and could well be Blakes top long-term candidate even though hes being brought in as an a sistant. Desjardins is conceivably in that mix, as well, but its hard to believe Sturm would leave his post with Germanys national team for an NHL a sistant gig mid-season if he didnt think he had a legitimate chance at the full-time job. In the present, the Kings are 4-8-1, have lost seven of their last nine games and sit eight points back of a wild card spot already in the Western Conference. If theyre going to get going, nows the time. As baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra used to say, It gets late early. Charging Coyotes The Arizona Coyotes werent off to the best start a few weeks ago, winning two of their first seven without injured star offseason acquisition Alex Galchenyuk in the lineup. Since his return, the Coyotes have reeled off five consecutive victories. Arizona can secure their first six-game winning streak in nearly six years if they beat the Flyers at home Monday tonight. The Coyotes allow the fewest goals per game in the NHL (1.98) and have the leagues top penalty kill, allowing only three goals in 38 times shorthanded. Goaltender Antti Raanta is among the league leaders with a 2.10 GAA and .929 save percentage. After a terrible start James Wiggins Jerseys last year, the Coyotes came on when Raanta shook off early-season injuries and carried the team down the stretch though the club still finished last in the West with only 70 points. Yet, solid goaltending and improved defensive play are again at the heart of Arizonas recent succe s. Their +11 goal differential is second-best in the Western Conference. The Malcolm Butler Jerseys Coyotes are still five points out of the division lead and three back of a playoff position, but they are warming much earlier than a year ago and seem to have the pieces to make this work. They will be a fascinating team to watch the rest of the way, in a division thats turning into one of the leagues toughest in 2018-19. Surprise in the Metro The Metropolitan Division is home to the last three Stanley Cup champions. Led by the Capitals and Penguins, the Metro is one of the toughest divisions in all of hockey year-in and year-out. The Rangers and Blue Jackets helped make this a hellish division, too, and last year the Devils made a major leap forward by reaching the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. So, here we are one month into a new season and who is sitting atop the Metro? The New York Islanders? MORE Rodney Hudson Jerseys : How an open mind helped Nazem Kadri become an upper-echelon player 500 games into his career Yes, the team that lost the biggest free agent in recent memory, has a patchwork defense and a by-committee approach is one point ahead of the Penguins atop the division as we break into November, following consecutive wins over Pittsburgh last week. The Islanders and new head coach Barry Trotz (can we get Lou to lift the no facial hair rule, just for Barry?) have a different look to them, without question, but its largely familiar faces leading the way. Anders Lee, who a sumed the Islanders captaincy after John Tavares departure, has 13 points (five goals and eight a sists) in 13 games. Josh Bailey is at more than a point-per-game pace and while Mat Barzal has only one goal so far, hes contributed 11 a sists. But without their goaltending duo of Robin Lehner and Thomas Grei s, the Islanders are in a different spot. Grei s numbers are gaudy 1.85 goals against and .944 save percentage in one le s start (6) than Lehner (7). Lehners been right there with Grei s, holding a .928 save percentage which is more than enough to give his team a chance to win. Can they maintain this pace, which includes a five-game winning streak heading into Monday? Considering its only a matter of time before the Capitals, Penguins, Blue Jackets and others kick Ron'Dell Carter Jerseys into gear, the odds are against the Islanders. But it would be foolish to count them out with their new Cup-winning coach, improved defensive structure and goaltending and a core group of returnees hell-bent on making the first year of the Post-Tavares Era a succe sful one.

NEW YORK With Boston University's semester winding down, David Quinn walked into the team's practice facility on a Friday morning. It was early, but he spotted one his players, junior Jordan Greenway. Right away, Quinn could tell that Greenway was excited about something, ready to share it with his head coach. "I walked in and he said, Gue s how I did on my midterm?" Quinn told Sporting News duringan extended interview in November. "I said,Well you wouldnt be asking me if you didnt do well, so Im going to gue s you did well on your midterm." Quinn knew these types of conversations and interactions were vital to him getting the most out of his players on the ice. It's that ability to develop young talent that has the New York Rangers bra s so excited to now have Quinn behind theirbench. On Thursday, Quinn was introduced as the . General manager Jeff Gorton said that Quinn was really the only man for the job, with he and the Rangers seeing eye-to-eye William Perry Jerseys on how to approach the responsibilities of a head coach. MOCK DRAFT 2.0: Welcome New York Rangers (@NYRangers) While Gorton estimated the Rangers probably interviewed between five and10 serious candidates, it was clear how much they coveted Quinn. Sources close to the situation indicated the Rangers twice sweetened their financial offer to pry the 51-year-old away from Commonwealth Avenue. Quinn said he was approached by several NHL teams over the past few years about making the jump. "This was really the only situation I would have left Boston University for," he said Thursday at Madison Square Garden, with a gold Rangers pin on his lapel and a huge smile on his face. Quinn: The more we talked, it just seemed like a natural fit. This was really the only situation I would have left Boston University for. Evan Sporer (@ev_sporer) Gorton made it clear throughout the search that the target was a coach to fit the Rangers' current needs. Those are much different than what the team and its fan base are accustomed to, with New York . "It's obviously an important day we're naming a head coach but we're also naming a head coach at a time we're rebuilding our team," Gorton said. "It's pretty well-documented Xavier Crawford Jerseys we were looking for somebody with fresh ideas and a fresh approach. 2018 DRAFT RANKINGS: "As we went through this proce s, we met with a number of people ... and it just kept coming back to David as the guy that we wanted." In Quinn, the Rangers are hoping they'll get a coach proficient in a number of areas, from being able to relate with and get through to the team's young core and the players it will continue to add, to stylistically and how he envisions the team playing, to his Cairo Santos Jerseys willingne s and open mindedne s to incorporate data into his decision-making. "Through the proce s of talking with them Jeff and Chris , every time they said that this is something they were looking to do, instinctively I would say to myself that this is kind of my coaching DNA."- Head Coach David Quinn New York Rangers (@NYRangers) The Rangers have three first-round draft picks in 2018 (Nos.9, 26, and 28) and two 2017 first-round picks (Filip Chytil and Lias Ander son) whom Gorton said on Thursday he expects to compete for opening night roster spots during training camp. "Nowadays with college coaches, and with junior coaches, a lot of these guys you're seeing thrown in the hat for this job players are different now," Rangers defenseman Kevin Shattenkirksaid. "They need to be Dakota Dozier Jerseys managed a little bit differently. They're not as hard on them as they used to be, and you have to be able to coach each player based on different personalities." Quinn was an a sistant under Jack Parker at Boston University for Shattenkirk's three collegiate seasons as a Terrier, from 2007-10. "Having Jackat BU and having (Quinn) at BU was the reason why I went there," Shattenkirk said. "It was dubbed as one of the best stepping stones to the NHL as far as going to a college. You don't know if you're going to make it at that time, but you put yourself in the best position to succeed, and that's what they did. They treated us there as a team and they coached us to win, but at the same time, their agenda was to develop you and turn you into a better player." MORE: It's that balance the Rangers are hoping Quinn can strike on Broadway. He'll be tasked with the pre sure to produce results, even amid a self-described rebuilding team, while also cultivating individual talent. But the philosophy Shattenkirk outlined meshes very much with how Quinn describes his approach to player relations. "You have to understand the whole situation, and you cant just focus on that one event or that one night," Quinn told Sporting News back in November. "You have to take everything into consideration Rodney Adams Jerseys when you deal with a player." What he'll attempt to do is get the Rangers to play an uptempo style catalyzed from a well-structured defensive zone, creating space for players to take offensive liberties. "He always has a fast team," said Rangers forward Kevin Hayes. "I've never practiced under him, but I can only imagine what those practices are going to be like." SN Q&A: Hayes spent four years on the other side of Commonwealth Avenue, playing for rival Boston College. Quinn left his job as an a sistant at BU right before Hayes' freshman year, but did have a hand in trying to recruit him into a Terriers sweater, and then returned as the BU head coach when Hayes was a senior. "Every time we played BU when I was at BC it was an up-and-down game," Hayes said. "I'm sure he'll bring that here to the Rangers." Both Shattenkirk and Hayes also stre sed an accountability they think Quinn will bring with him, something they said was lacking this past season. "In order to win games, you have to hold each other accountable, whether it's your best and older players holding the younger guys accountable, but your younger guys should quietly be holding the older guys accountable as well," Hayes said. "Everyone is on the team to win one thing, and we all know what that is. You obviously have to have the right players and the best players, but a major thing for a succe sful team is accountability. It shouldn't just be the guys who have been here for seven, eight years holding the younger guys Chicago Bears Pet Gear accountable, it's a team-wide thing." Hayes said that starts right at the top with Quinn. MORE: "He is -- like he said -- he's fair and demanding. That's very accurate," Shattenkirk said. "He treats players with a lot of respect but he expects you to show up to work
